Your First Purchase on ToneTrade: Checkout, ID, and Confirming Delivery
Buying your first instrument on ToneTrade feels more structured than a classifieds meetup — on purpose. Here is the sequence from browse to funds released, so nothing surprises you at checkout.
Before you pay
Read the listing carefully: live photos, condition notes, what is included, and the courier fee (or pickup/local options if the seller offered them). Ask the seller questions through ToneTrade before you commit — once you pay, the deal runs through escrow.
Checkout and first-purchase ID
Pay only through ToneTrade checkout — never EFT or cash directly to the seller. On your first purchase, you will upload a clear SA ID or passport photo before paying. This is for safety and disputes; it is not shown publicly on your profile.
After payment: wait for delivery
TradeSafe holds your payment in escrow. The seller ships (or arranges pickup/local delivery per the listing) only after funds are secured in escrow. Track the parcel when tracking is available and inspect the gear on arrival against the listing.
Confirm via TradeSafe — not a mystery button on ToneTrade
When you are satisfied, confirm acceptance through TradeSafe email or SMS for that transaction. There is no separate Accept escrow button in My Account — follow TradeSafe’s instructions. You typically have an inspection window of up to about seven days to raise a dispute; if you do nothing in time, funds may release to the seller automatically.
