ToneTrade Fees Explained for Sellers
Fees confuse people when they are lumped together. On ToneTrade there are two separate seller-side charges on a successful escrow release — plus courier, which the buyer pays at checkout. Here is the plain-language breakdown.
What the buyer pays at checkout
The buyer’s total is the listing price plus courier (or free shipping if you offered it). ToneTrade and TradeSafe platform fees are not added on top of the buyer’s cart as extra line items — they are deducted from the seller’s side when funds release.
ToneTrade platform commission
On successful marketplace orders, ToneTrade charges 1% + R10 per order (settled via Dokan / marketplace commission). The amount shown for your cart at checkout is authoritative if admin rules differ by category.
TradeSafe escrow fee (seller-paid)
TradeSafe’s escrow and payment fee is separate and also seller-paid on ToneTrade. The rate depends on how the buyer pays — for example manual EFT around 0.75%, Ozow around 1.5%, cards around 3% (excl. VAT; see TradeSafe’s published table). This is not included in the 1% + R10 figure.
Listing is free
Posting a listing is free. Optional Featured promotion is R49 for 7 days from your seller dashboard — see Fees & Platform Charges. You only pay commission and TradeSafe fees when a sale completes successfully through escrow.
